Anchored for Life is a peer-led student leadership program at Scandia Elementary designed to support students through difficult life transitions such as PCS moves, being new to school and family deployments.  Anchored for Life helps ensure that no child navigates those changes alone.

In addition to peer support, Anchored for Life student leaders collaborate to create campus-wide activities that promote connection, belonging, and school engagement. Through these efforts, they strengthen our school community and help build a culture where students feel anchored — even during times of change.

Elementary and middle school are one of the most formative times in a young student's life. The best way to instill a lifelong interest in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) is to provide a fun, engaging, and hands-on opportunity to explore and experience it for themselves. By its nature, the study of robotics incorporates all four pillars of STEM. VEX IQ is a snap-together robotics system designed from the ground up to provide this opportunity to future engineers of all skill levels. By packaging advanced concepts into an accessible package, the system also naturally encourages teamwork, problem solving, and leadership for students.

Playworks is a nonprofit organization that helps elementary schools create safe, inclusive, and active recess environments. The mission is to improve students’ physical health, social-emotional skills, and overall school climate through structured play and positive leadership. Playworks uses Junior Coaches, who are older elementary students, to organize games, teach conflict resolution, and build teamwork skills so every child feels included and supported during recess. Through this role, junior coaches build confidence, responsibility, and leadership skills while helping create a positive playground experience for everyone.
